We study global cycling of elements, biogeochemistry, geochemical foundations of life and its origin, marine archives of global change and seafloor properties, plate tectonics and geological hazards. Our undergraduate education provides a broad understanding of our planet and its dynamic systems and our graduate education provides specialized training in cross-disciplinary geological sciences.

Tasks

In Baltic Gas, our task is to quantify methane exchange between the sediment and seawater and to quantify the air-sea exchange of methane.

Our goals are to determine high-resolution depth gradients at and below the sediment surface for the calculation of exchange fluxes, and to use benthic and floating flux chambers for direct flux determination.

We also coordinate Baltic Gas activities in the Himmerfjärden coastal area south of Stockholm, which is one of key study areas of the project.
