  • NERI is part of Aarhus University. NERI undertakes scientific consultancy work, monitoring of nature and the environment as well as applied and strategic research.

    NERI's research forms the basis for science-based nature and environmental management and therefore support social development in relation to nature and environment, and provide qualified research and a science-based decision basis to authorities, politicians and other decision-makers. 

    NERI's strategic research is based on scientific expertise within atmospheric environment, aquatic environment and nature, terrestrial environment and nature, and environmental analyses within a social science perspective.

    Department of Marine Ecology participates in international research projects, in particular in studies on coastal marine ecology and biogeochemistry. Through numerous cruises in Danish coastal waters, they have an important local know-how and data as well as experience with logistics and sediment handling and analyses.

    In BALTIC GAS Department of Marine Ecology will contribute to

    WP1:

    Project management, coordination and dissemination

    • Management and dissemination
    • Submission of data to common database
    • Organizing research cruises

    WP3:

    Biogeochemistry

    • Methane distribution and geochemical in situ gradients
    • Gas emission across sediment-water and sea-air interface
    • Methane and key biogeochemical processes

    WP4:

    Modelling and data integration.
